Nunhead Cemetery, one of London's Magnificent Seven, opened in 1840 on the heights of Nunhead Hill with Gothic chapels, Egyptian catacombs and sweeping views over the City of London. After decades of neglect following closure in 1969, it was restored by the Friends of Nunhead Cemetery and is now a Local Nature Reserve. Camberwell Old Cemetery, established in 1856, contains some of the finest carved Victorian memorial stonework in south London.
